EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. - Fox 9 Meteorologist Steve Frazier passed away Wednesday after a brave fight against pancreatic cancer, demonstrating through the 3-year ordeal the positivity he always shared with others through his all-too-brief life.
Frazier worked as weekend meteorologist and in other capacities at Fox 9 since 2012. He was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2015.
Fox 9 General Manager Sheila Oliver released the following statement announcing Frazier's passing:
"I am heartbroken to tell you that our dear friend and colleague Steve Frazier passed away today. Steve was one of a kind. Never a negative word passed by his lips – a true beacon of positivity. He was a magnet for making new friends and delighted in his old friends. He would give you the shirt off his back, even with a hanger still attached. He was a one-man PR firm, making even the worst news somehow OK. A champion of social media, Steve had thousands of loyal followers. He had a lot of loyal friends here at Fox 9 that gave Steve such great comfort and camaraderie over the past few years. He told many of those friends recently that he was “at peace." Steve made everyone who met him a better person.
We will keep Steve in our thoughts and prayers."
The news of Frazier's death triggered an outpouring of heartfelt tributes, many from his colleagues at Fox 9.
Those who knew him can testify to Frazer's love of social media and his wacky sense of humor. One famous on-air moment involved him walking onto set with a hanger still stuck in the back of his suit jacket. The schtick left co-anchors Tim Blotz and Karen Scullen howling.
