University of Minnesota to host Dr. Anthony Fauci

The world-renowned physician became a household name during the COVID-19 pandemic, as he led the White House Coronavirus Task Force under former President Trump.

MINNEAPOLIS — The University of Minnesota announced it will host infectious disease expert Dr. Anthony Fauci for a lecture at the school's Northrop in October.

Fauci will be joined by Minnesota Public Radio's Cathy Wurzer, who will moderate a Q-and-A session following his remarks.

The world-renowned physician and former director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases became a household name during the COVID-19 pandemic, as he led the White House Coronavirus Task Force under former President Donald Trump and eventually acted as the group's public spokesperson.

Under President Biden's current administration, Fauci remained a trusted advisor on the White House COVID-19 Response Team and served as the president's chief medical advisor until 2022, when he retired from medicine after a half-century in the field.

Fauci's remarks come as part the university's Distinguished Carlson Lecture Series, which has invited prominent experts in their respective fields to the Humphrey School of Public Affairs for more than 40 years. Past speakers include Malala Yousafzai, Gloria Steinem, former presidents and the 14th Dalai Lama, among others.

Dr. Fauci's appearance is scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 22, from 6-7 p.m.
