Flu deaths in Minnesota up to 42 this season

According to the Minnesota Department of Health, the flu is still considered to be widespread.

ST PAUL, Minn. — The number of deaths in Minnesota associated with the flu has risen to 42, according to state health officials.

In the most recent Influenza & Respiratory Illness Activity Report released by the Minnesota Department of Health, 182 more hospitalizations have been reported over the past week, raising the total number to 1,656 in this flu season. The median age of those hospitalized is 54 years old.

The MDH also reported 87 new school outbreaks this week, bringing the season total to 620. The first pediatric death was reported in January, and remains the only pediatric death this flu season.

The flu is still being classified as widespread.
