MINNEAPOLIS — Does the air you breathe contribute to your chances for developing breast cancer? An article published by breastcancer.org says “…women who work and live in places with high levels of fine-particle air pollution are more likely to develop breast cancer...”
Fine-particle pollution includes dust, soot, smoke, and dirt. Read more about the French study by using this link.
It’s Buddy Check 11 Day!
On the 11th of each month, Buddy Check 11 day, Health Fair 11 reminds you to check yourself from signs of breast cancer.
Set aside some time each month for a breast self-exam. Be on the lookout for lumps, thickenings, puckering, or rashes. Click here for a video on how to do a BSE. It was produced by the National Breast Cancer Foundation.
When you do regular self-exams, you’re more likely to notice if something has changed in your body. If you notice anything out of the ordinary, pick up the phone and schedule an appointment with a medical professional.
If you are 40 or older, it’s time to discuss mammogram schedules with your primary care physician. She will help determine how often you should have the screening performed.
Health Fair 11 also asks you to take a moment today to remind a “Buddy” to do their own self-exam.
