Heidi joined KARE 11 as a multimedia journalist in March 2015 after working for sister station WBIR in Knoxville, Tenn. She graduated from DePaul University where the College of Communication named her "Journalism Student of the Year." Heidi started her career at KTTC in Rochester, Minn.
Heidi's work has received several awards, including two Regional Edward R. Murrow awards for Writing and Hard News and in 2015, the Tennessee Associated Press named her "Best TV Reporter."
Heidi grew up watching KARE 11 from her hometown of Alexandria, Minn. She's thrilled to be back in Minnesota and would love to hear from you!
When I was young, I wanted to be: A singer on American Idol.
Describe your perfect day: Sleeping in late, spending the afternoon out on Lake Le Homme Dieu and then watching a Harry Potter movie.
Favorite vacation spot: Every summer, I visit Nantucket with my husband's family. It's also where we spent our honeymoon!
Favorite book: The Harry Potter series, The Things They Carried, Paper Towns... the list goes on.
Favorite sport to play: Tennis. It's also the only sport I can play.
Favorite story you ever worked on: While working in East Tennessee, I put together a feature about a gun shop that's home to four cats. I'm a crazy cat lady so it was fun to see these tough guys who love guns, also baby-talk to their cats.
Why do you like your job: I consider myself to be a lifelong learner. I love that my job allows me to constantly meet new people and be able to tell their stories.
Family: My husband, Eliot, and our cats Bunny Pancake and Backpack the Brave. My sister, brother-in-law, niece and two nephews live outside of Washington, D.C. My mom still lives in Alexandria and watches KARE 11 every night!
