MINNEAPOLIS — Homelessness in the metro area and throughout the state continues to rise in spite of great efforts put forth by many groups.
There is an emergency crisis of unsheltered homelessness, which includes Minneapolis and within the population that found shelter at the Hiawatha encampment and later at the Navigation Center, according to Street Outreach Program Managers John Tribbett.
A report from the July 2019 Point in Time Count shows an upward trend. In Hennepin County, the number of homeless at the Hiawatha Encampment in the summer of 2018 were at 523. This past summer, after the closure of the camp and the Navigation Center, the numbers were up to 732.
