MINNEAPOLIS - The iconic Grain Belt Beer sign that has greeted commuters near the Hennepin Avenue Bridge for more than 65 years is finally getting a premium upgrade.
Over Thanksgiving weekend, August Schell Brewing Company announced on its Facebook page that the lengthy rehab is complete and the sign will be re-lit on Dec. 30.
The New Ulm-based company purchased the historic beer sign and the land it sits on 15 years ago. Then began the lengthy repair and refurbishing process, which included replacing the aged neon tubes and 1,100 incandescent bulbs with LED lights.
To mark the occasion, the brewery is selling $100 packages which include a certificate of bulb ownership, a commemorative T-shirt and a porcelain sign featuring the landmark. Click here to order.
