NEW HOPE, Minn — An "intoxicated" woman has been charged with a gross misdemeanor of neglect of a child, after leaving her baby with strangers at a New Hope bar while intoxicated, according to a criminal complaint.

Thirty-year-old Alicyn Desantis was arrested Sunday night after police received reports that an "extremely intoxicated" woman left her baby unattended at the bar.

While Desantis was gone, the staff members of the bar, located on the 2700 block of Winnetka Avenue North, were taking care of the 6-month-old baby.

The staff from the bar told police that the woman came to the bar after being kicked out of another nearby bar due to how intoxicated she was.

The staff also said she was passing her baby around to other intoxicated patrons. At this point, staff intervened and took care of the baby, according to the complaint.

The staff changed the baby's "full" diaper and fed the baby a bottle they found in a diaper bag that had been abandoned at the bar, according to the complaint.

Desantis later returned to the bar and did not notice her baby was gone, and did not inquire as where her baby was located, the complaint reads.

Desantis told police she was drunk and that she has gone to treatment for alcohol use in the past.
