MINNEAPOLIS - The family of Jamar Clark has filed a civil rights lawsuit against two Minneapolis police officers involved in his shooting death.

The lawsuit claims "due to Officer Dustin Schwarze and Officer Mark Ringgenberg's unreasonable use of excessive force which resulted in the fatal shooting...violating Clark's well-settled federal rights" to excessive force and unreasonable seizure.

Clark, 24, was shot during an altercation with the officers on Nov. 15, 2015. He died the following day. The death sparked national protests, including an occupation outside Minneapolis Police Department's 4th Precinct. Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman, not a grand jury, ultimately decided not to file criminal charges against Schwarze and Ringgenberg.

The lawsuit was filed Thursday in federal court. The Clark's are requesting monetary damages to be decided by a jury.
