PYEONGCHANG - Afton's Jessie Diggins is back in action, skiing in the Freestyle 10K on Thursday in a race that could be historic for Team USA.
Diggins loves this event. It's different than the others in that it's a staggered start. It's the skier versus the clock, and it is in the freestyle discipline, which looks more like a skating style.
Though she has not medaled yet, Diggins has been strong and registering some of her best finishes so far. She was feeling great going into the race.
"You're out there by yourself so it's self-motivated," she said. you have to be, it's all just what you're saying to herself in your head. You're not head to head with anyone else. You have to get yourself on that course and I love that. And it's a gnarly course.
Diggins is still trying to be the first-ever American to medal in a cross country ski event. She also has the team events starting this weekend.
