Loaves and Fishes gardens need your help

Four gardens in the metro help feed thousands of people each month.

MINNEAPOLIS - Loaves and Fishes of Minnesota has been around since the early 1980s as an answer to the thousands of mentally ill people that were suddenly homeless when legislation closed many facilities in Minnesota.

This year with the help of the Twin Cities United Way Centennial year celebration have been able to make huge strides and have grown four gardens/farms in the metro to help feed the thousands that they feed each month.

We visited their largest farm that has been responsible for 5,000 meals in its first year in Coon Rapids. The other farms/gardens are in Eagan, Richfield, and St. Paul/Frogtown. The season is coming to a close, but they still need your help. To finish the harvest, turn the gardens in for the winter or plan on helping next spring to get them all growing again. What a wonderful addition to an amazing organization.

Be part of something really big to support your community! Greater Twin Cities United Way is mobilizing 100,000 volunteers to take action across the region in 2015. Take part in one (or more) of four community-wide projects, and/or use United Way's free Volunteer United service to choose from hundreds of volunteer projects for your company, club, place of worship, college/university, school or group.
