BELTRAMI COUNTY, Minn. — One person is dead and another is in custody after a domestic incident Saturday in northern Minnesota.

The Beltrami County Sheriff's Office and Leech Lake Police Department issued a joint statement Monday, saying officers responded to reports of a domestic disturbance just after 4:30 a.m. Saturday in Ten Lake Township, about 15 miles from Bemidji.

When they arrived, the release said LLPD officers found one person unresponsive and not breathing. Despite being transported to an area hospital for treatment, authorities said the victim ultimately did not survive.

Their identity, nature and cause of death have not yet been released, as autopsy results by the Midwest Medical Examiner's Office are still pending.

Police said a second person at the scene was arrested and taken into custody at the Beltrami County Correctional Facility, where they're awaiting a formal charging decision.

Authorities said they do not believe there's any lingering threat to the public.

This is a developing story. KARE 11 will add more information as it becomes available.
