ST PAUL, Minn. — The St. Paul Police Department (SPPD) homicide unit is investigating a shooting that left one person dead in the city's North End neighborhood Monday night, and interviewing the man who likely pulled the trigger.
Squads were dispatched to the 500 block of Front Ave. at 7:30 p.m. after a 911 caller said he was assaulted in his vehicle and shot at the man responsible. The alleged attacker got into a red vehicle and drove away, according to the caller.
Shortly afterward, a red vehicle crashed two miles away at E. 12th and Cedar Streets. SPPD officers reported finding a man in the car suffering from a gunshot injury, unconscious and not breathing.
Officers and Good Samaritans attempted lifesaving measures but the man died at the scene. SPPD's homicide unit is investigating the incident and speaking with the 911 caller to determine what occurred.
At this point, it is unclear whether the alleged assault victim had a permit to carry a weapon.
The Ramsey County Medical Examiner's Office will release the identity of the victim and his cause of death after an autopsy is completed and the family notified.
