BROOKLYN PARK, Minn. — One woman died in a Brooklyn Park car crash Sunday afternoon.

According to the Brooklyn Park Police Department, officers were initially dispatched to the scene on County Road 81 near Greenhaven Drive for reports of an overturned vehicle and other calls reporting a man running from the scene towards a nearby Walmart.

Officers and a crew from Citywide Towing worked to winch up the overturned car and found an adult woman who had died. On Monday, she was identified as 25-year-old Kaiyla Phillips, of Minneapolis.

A short time later, police officers found the man who had fled the scene, according to the release.

As the response to the crash was developing, officers learned of a theft at Napa Auto Parts in Osseo and police determined the man they found who had fled the scene was involved in the theft.

Witnesses reportedly informed officers the vehicle that fled from the Napa Auto Parts store was driven by a woman with a male passenger, according to the statement.

The man was treated for minor injuries at a hospital before being booked at the Hennepin County Jail.

The vehicle that crashed was previously reported stolen to the Minneapolis Police Department.
