GREEN LAKE COUNTY, Wis. — A child in Green Lake County, Wisc., was killed Sunday morning while he was out hunting.
The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, the Green Lake County Sheriff’s Office and emergency medical services responded to the call shortly after 9 a.m. Sunday morning.
A 41-year-old male shooter was attempting to unload his firearm while it was placed in the backseat of a vehicle, the firearm then discharged, striking the child in the chest, according to a statement from the WDNR.
The victim was flown to a nearby hospital where he died. Both the shooter and the victim were members of the same hunting party, according to the WDNR.
“The Wisconsin DNR and the Green Lake County Sheriff’s Office express our sincere condolences to the family and friends of those impacted by this loss of life,” said a release from Recreation Warden Lt. Bob Kneeland.
