ROSEMOUNT, Minn — A 15-year-old driver attempted to pass a semi-truck and collided with another car on County Road 46 near Biscayne Avenue Monday afternoon in Rosemount, according to a news release from the Dakota County Sheriff's Office.

The 15-year-old driver, identified as David Rosas, along with the driver of the other car, 81-year-old Dennis Dahlstrom, both died. A passenger in Dahlstom's vehicle sustained critical injuries and was taken to a hospital.

Deputies said Rojas was traveling east on County Road 46 around 3:30 p.m. Monday. Rosas was behind a semi-truck and pulled into the westbound lane in a no-passing zone in an attempt to pass. Witnesses reported an oncoming westbound vehicle, driven by Dahlstrom, was approaching approximately one-quarter of a mile away. Deputies said each driver swerved onto the shoulder at the same time and collided.

"In this tragedy, there were several heroic citizens that stopped to render aid to the victims before first responders arrived. We also thank those responding agencies who assisted in life saving efforts; Rosemount Police Department, Rosemount Fire Department, Allina Health, and the Minnesota State Patrol. We extend our deepest condolences to the victims' families and friends involved in this tragic incident," part of the release read.
