OAK PARK HEIGHTS, Minn. — Two officers were injured at the Oak Park Heights Correctional Facility at around 8:45 p.m. Thursday Oct. 25.
The officers were injured during an altercation between two inmates. The assaults happened when one inmate was being taken from the gym and another inmate got involved.
Three officers were involved in the altercation and two were injured and taken to the hospital for evaluation and later released.
According to Department of Corrections both inmates were placed in "restrictive housing" and the Oak Park Heights facility is currently on lockdown.
Sarah Fitzgerald the Director of Communications with the Minnesota Department of Corrections said in a written statement, "This incident will be fully investigated, and the offenders responsible will be held accountable under the law. Our highest priority is the safety of our corrections officers and all individuals at our facilities."
Five staff members at Oak Park Heights were injured in early October and in September a corrections officer died after suffering a medical emergency after assisting with an inmate assault.
