Cottage Grove police say the bodies of 8 deceased dogs were discovered near the Mississippi River Sunday, right off Grey Cloud Island Drive.

ANDOVER, Minn. — Officials believe eight dogs died at an animal rescue in Andover and were then dumped near the Mississippi River in Grey Cloud Island Township, according to a press release.

Officials requested a search warrant for the animal rescue after a lead investigator found that all eight dogs had allegedly come from the same rescue. The investigator also learned that the dogs may have died from parvo.

While executing the search warrant, 22 others dogs were then removed from the facility. The dogs are currently being cared for by the Animal Humane Society. Officials didn't provide any details as to why the dogs were removed, but a spokesperson with the animal rescue said it was a precaution to avoid the illness from spreading. No arrests or charges have been filed, according to the release.

The search warrant, which was executed by the Anoka County Sheriff's Office and the Animal Humane Society, came one day after a person confessed to dumping the bodies of the eight deceased dogs near the Mississippi River.

The incident remains under investigation.
