'You get a puppy and you get a puppy!'

Minneapolis Animal Care & Control attempts to "clear the shelter."

MINNEAPOLIS — Minneapolis Animal Care & Control (MACC) is hosting its annual "Clear the Shelter" event beginning Thursday, May 16.

MACC aims to find forever homes for all its pets.

Besides the whole unconditional love thing... the staff hopes the other big incentive for getting a dog or cat is that there are no adoption fees for Minneapolis residents.

However, a licensing fee of $15-30 is necessary for dogs 7 months and older, in addition to cats.

"Puppies six months of age or younger are $250 regardless of residency," according to a City of Minneapolis news release.

For non-residents, the adoption fees are $25 for cats and $100 for dogs.

"Clear the Shelter" will be held from 1 to 7 p.m. Thursday and 1 to 6 p.m. Friday, where people wanting to adopt a pet will be paired with a staffer or volunteer matchmaker.

"When my family brought home our cat Ronda nearly a decade ago from MACC, our lives changed forever," said Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey in the release. "Our furry friends deserve a second chance at love and security – and MACC's Clear the Shelter event helps make this happen. If you're looking to add another family member to your home, this is a great opportunity to do so."

The MACC staff spotlighted one of their adoptable animals — Kuavo — "a dog that loves to play fetch in the park as much as he loves to snuggle on the couch."

More information on adoptable animals, volunteering or supporting Animal Care & Control is available on the City website.
