Alcohol ruled out in crash that killed Eagan student

Eagan PD say the driver did not appear to be under the influence of alcohol or any other hazardous substances at the time of the crash.

EAGAN, Minn. — The Eagan Police Department has ruled out that alcohol or any other hazardous substance played a role in Friday's crash involving an Eagan student that was fatally struck while riding his bicycle.

In a press release, officials say the driver did not appear to be under the influence of alcohol or any other hazardous substances at the time of the crash.

Patric Vitek was killed Friday morning around 7:20 a.m. when a 33-year-old driver was headed east on Diffley Road. According to officials, the driver was in the center lane when he struck the rear tire of Vitel's bike.

Eagan police say no arrests or citations have been given in relation to the crash.

Investigators have been gathering physical evidence and continue to interview the driver and witnesses to determine what factors led to the crash.
