BELLE PLAINE, Minn. - Emergency crews had to evacuate an assisted living facility in Belle Plaine due to a water pipe burst.
It happened at the Cardinal Ridge Apartments around 2:30 p.m. Friday.
Over 30 residents, mostly seniors, were evacuated from the 50-unit, low-income complex.
The Red Cross and Salvation Army are assisting 14 residents with hotel accommodations. All others are staying with friends or family in the area.
Power has been cut to building. The Belle Plaine Fire Department is working to install portable heaters to keep the flooded water from freezing.
The cause of the pipe's break is unknown and a restoration company will be on site this weekend to assess the damage.
