Goodhue County Sheriff details case of missing man found deceased

Sheriff Marty Kelly said searchers located 57-year-old Brad Nagel down a steep embankment on his property in rural Red Wing following days of searching.

GOODHUE COUNTY, Minn. — The Goodhue County Sheriff's Office is sharing new details in the case of a man considered missing for more than a week before his body was discovered Sunday afternoon in rural Red Wing.

Sheriff Marty Kelly said in a news release that 57-year-old Brad Nagel was found on his own property at the bottom of a steep embankment. Kelly stated that Nagel had suffered "a single self-inflicted wound," and that while the investigation is ongoing, no foul play is suspected in his death.

Nagel last had contact with his family late the night of Wednesday, Nov. 15, and they became concerned after he failed to show up for a work commitment. Investigators said the last contact anyone had with him was at 11:30 p.m. that day.

On Nov. 19, Nagel's 2005 Chevy Colorado pickup was located in the Wisconsin back channel of the Mississippi River. Officials posted on Facebook that the family wished to thank all of the people involved in searching.

The 57-year-old Nagel was described as an avid outdoorsman who lived on the outskirts of Red Wing.

In Monday's news release, Sheriff Kelly thanked colleagues from the Pierce Country, Wisconsin Sheriff's Department, local fire and rescue squads and countless local volunteers who helped search for Nagel.
