ST PAUL, Minn. — The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) has released more information about who was involved when a St. Paul police officer shot a man earlier this month.
According to the BCA, 11-year law enforcement veteran Josh Needham was the officer who shot 31-year-old Brett Fraser during the encounter.
A BCA report states SPPD officers were responding to a home on the 400 block of Thomas Avenue on reports of a man physically and sexually assaulting a woman after midnight on Jan. 6, according to the BCA. The 911 caller also reported the man committing the assault was armed, according to the statement.
Upon arrival, the officers identified themselves and the woman left the apartment. The officers ordered Fraser to leave the apartment before he allegedly ran out onto the small hallway where the officers were standing.
Needham shot three rounds at Fraser and hit him in the arm, according to the BCA. The officers then provided Fraser with medical care until an ambulance arrived.
According to the BCA, Fraser has been released from the hospital and taken into custody.
