NORTH BRANCH, Minn. — A North Branch police officer shot and killed a woman after a 911 call Thursday night, according to a police press release.
Officers responded to a call about an intoxicated and suicidal woman around 9:20 p.m. near Third Avenue and Elm Street in North Branch, according to the release posted on Facebook. After encountering the woman, one officer discharged a non-lethal Pepperball and one officer fired their department gun, striking the woman.
The woman died as a result of her injuries despite officers rendering aid, North Branch police reported. The incident was recorded by body-worn cameras.
Both officers were placed on leave, which is standard procedure following use-of-force incidents. The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) is investigating the incident to avoid a conflict of interest.
