BCA investigating SPPD shooting that killed man

According to the SPPD, no officers were injured in the shooting.

ST PAUL, Minn. — The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is investigating after officers from the St. Paul Police Department fatally shot a man on Saturday afternoon.

The shooting occurred shortly after 1:30 p.m. near the intersection of Bay Street and Watson Avenue, according to SPPD Sgt. Mike Ernster.

According to the SPPD, officers were called to the location in relation to a manhunt for a person charged with murder.

An anonymous 911 caller had told the SPPD the man was at that location on a bicycle, said Ernster. Officers waited until a man on a bicycle arrived and departed a business at that location, added Ernster.

SPPD officers closed in on the man as he rode his bike south on Bay Street to Watson Avenue, said Ernster, who added that officers approached the man to confirm whether or not he was the subject of the manhunt.

According to Ernster, when officers approached the man, they noted he was armed with a handgun and fatally shot him.

According to the SPPD, no officers were injured in the shooting and the BCA will identify the man who was killed.

This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
