Bethel University students partner with MPLS church to reach the homeless

With jackets to blankets donated by students, members of the outreach team load up and head out distributing winter goods, intending to help those in need.

MINNEAPOLIS — For students at Bethel University, being Minnesota nice is a way of life.

"It's just a really cool opportunity," said Rebekah Robinson.

Every other Friday night, a team from the school heads out with a specific goal:

"Specifically help the homeless in our community," said Robinson.

From jackets to blankets donated by students, members of the outreach team load up and head out distributing winter goods, intending to help those in need.

"The human heart just really yearns for connection and these people are no exception to that," explained Robinson.

"You're giving away the joy of the lord, you're building relationships through love," said Bradley McCoy as he addressed a room full of street team volunteers Friday night at ICCM.

The program is part of a partnership with Inner City Church (ICCM) Life Center in Minneapolis.

"There's stuff going on every night at Life Center here, every single day we have hot meals for lunch, we have recovery, discipleship," said McCoy.

"A lot of times we as Christians go into these wanting to change the heart of others, but really it's our hearts that are changed," said Robinson.

Volunteer street teams with ICCM head out every Friday night handing out hot meals and connecting with the community.
