BLOOMINGTON, Minn. — A future waterpark at the Mall of America took a big step forward this week.

The Bloomington City Council approved the final development plan for the waterpark 7-0.

The Mall of America proposed the plan to the city council and the Port Authority in March of 2018. The waterpark would cost $230-250 million to build, and take up a 225,000-square-foot space, making it one of the largest indoor waterparks in North America.

Ryan Companies and DLR Group released new renderings of the proposed park in November of this year.

The waterpark was inspired by the one at the West Edmonton Mall in Canada, which brings in more than 500,000 people per year.
