ST. PAUL, Minn. - It’s been five days that the city, the state, the nation, the world has been mourning the loss of Prince Rogers Nelson.
And in that mourning has come a plethora of memorials, tributes and honors.
On Monday, both the House and the Senate adopted a resolution recapping Prince's accomplishments and contributions to the state of Minnesota. Republicans and Democrats alike took turns reading portions of the resolution.
And in both chambers of the legislature it was capped off by a moment of silence for the fallen music icon.
On Monday night, after the House formally adjourned, Rep. Peggy Flanagan, of St. Louis Park, used her platform as a lawmaker in a whole different twist. She sang "Purple Rain" on the House floor, accompanied by Rep. Mike Freiberg of Golden Valley on keyboards.
Rep. Flanagan said star's sudden death had hit her as hard as the loss of her political idol, Sen. Paul Wellstone, in a 2002 plane crash.
"I just needed something to do with my grief," Flanagan explained. "This is something we can pour some energy into and to honor someone who is so purely Minnesotan -- he’s ours."
The five-minute performance ended in a standing ovation.
