Shakopee student headed to Scripps National Spelling Bee

SHAKOPEE, Minn. - In just three short months, Elise Weier, an 8th grade student at Shakopee West Jr. High School, is going to go for national stardom.

SHAKOPEE, Minn. - In just three short months, Elise Weier, an 8th grade student at Shakopee West Jr. High School, is going to go for national stardom.

Okay, maybe that’s extreme. But she will be one of the chosen few to compete at the 2016 Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C.

Weier is no joke.

She’s an ‘A’ student who has her sights set on nuclear engineering as a career because that’s the avenue, she says, that will fight for a cancer cure.

Oh and she has a black belt in karate.
