CLOQUET, Minn. — A disturbing scene in a home in Cloquet on the Fond du Lac Indian Reservation as police on Sunday found a 27-year-old woman and her 18-month-old son murdered.
The victim's brother said their names were Jackie Defoe and Kevin.
"She was a hardworking mother. Most definitely. She did everything for her kids. There's nothing she wouldn't do," Adam Greensky said.
Greensky said his sister Jackie leaves behind two other kids. And Greensky says she was pregnant when she was killed.
He says that she had been dating the man who is now arrested. KARE 11 News is not naming him because he's not formally charged.
"He was bad news. He was bad news all around," Greensky said.
Court records show the suspect has a long history of domestic violence convictions, including in 2016, when according to the criminal complaint, he punched and kicked and stomped his ex-wife, breaking her jaw.
The suspect was on the run for several hours Sunday, police warning he's likely armed and dangerous, before they found him in the woods, cold and alone.
Greensky said his sister fought hard in recent years to try and achieve sobriety. He says he hopes that's one thing people take away from this awful story.
"I guess trying to raise awareness of sobriety because this was over an addiction. From both sides. Heavy addiction for both sides of the family," Greensky said.
