MINNEAPOLIS — A Minneapolis staple is getting recognition from some internationally known artists. Bryant Lake Bowl has plenty of history – and plenty of famous guests.
"Patton Oswalt, Dessa," said Jordan Shively with the alley and theater. "Brian Posehn."
Thousands of people have stopped by Bryant Lake Bowl in it's history, and now, there's some new guests paying tribute.
"It feels good that out of all the iconic Twin City architecture and spots, that they chose our bowling alley," Shively said. "Our owner, Erica, is a very large fan of The Black Keys."
The Black Keys are also apparently fans of Bryant Lake Bowl. Shively says the duo from Akron, Ohio have stopped by multiple times in the past.
The band is releasing a new album called "Ohio Players," which features a bowling alley on the front, and a rack of shoes and bowling balls on the back. It's a familiar sight for Shively.
"That back with the lathe in the back, and then the diamonds, is very specific to here," he said. "There aren't very many bowling alleys around here that have that exact background."
The wall above the pins in the alley features a very recognizable diamond pattern – easy to spot on the front of the album.
"One of their photographers took a picture and then they got in contact with us and got permission to use it," Shively said.
It's a cool piece of history for an iconic establishment, and also cool for fans of the band.
"Especially for a big band like The Black Keys," said Shane Benthin, a fan bowling Saturday. "Nice to get the local recognition, especially in Minneapolis."
Shively says they're happy that the band chose to feature them on the album cover, but celebrity or not – everyone who comes through their door is a part of their history.
"Everyone who comes and gives us the responsibility of your time and your money, and your choosing to come here, we're going to treat you like you are the most important person in the world to us, because you are," he said.
"Ohio Players" released on Friday, April 5.
