MINNESOTA, USA — KARE 11 is partnering with the US Marine Corps for Toys for Tots. Staff Sergeant Tyree Stevens showed Morgan Wolfe what happens after toys are dropped off.
"It's a surreal moment knowing that you're giving a toy to a child who wasn't expecting it," SSgt. Stevens said.
He says they are expecting to deliver 250,000 toys to children in need across the Twin Cities this season, exceeding their numbers last year.
Once toys are picked up from drop-off locations, the Marines bring them to a warehouse for sorting based on gender and age. After the toys are sorted into groups, they are packaged and organized for non-profits getting the toys.
When the organizations come to pick them up, the marines help load them into the car and send them on their way.
"We also are there to help directly deliver the toys to children. It's special," Stevens said.
KARE 11 is a drop-off location for Toys for Tots. The tent is open from 8 a.m. - 8 p.m.
