Car crashes through Minneapolis tobacco shop Friday

The owner told KARE 11 he planned on opening the store later in the day.

MINNEAPOLIS — A car smashed through the doors at a Minneapolis tobacco shop early Friday morning. 

In a news release, Minneapolis police said the vehicle involved "appeared to be stolen." Officers said two people inside the car "left in a waiting vehicle without taking anything from the store."

Police said there have been no arrests.

The tobacco shop's owner told KARE 11's CeCe Gaines that he got a call from authorities around 1:30 a.m. and he rushed to the scene down the road from 46th and Nicollet.  He added that this has happened a couple of times over the last 3-4 years. He was cleaning up the store with his family since 2 a.m. and said he intended on boarding it up and opening it later in the day. 

Along with the Minneapolis Police, a forensics team was seen taking samples of the car before it was towed around 3:30 a.m.
