ST PAUL, Minn. — Casa Guadalupana, nestled within the former rectory for Church of St. Matthew in St. Paul, transcends the mere concept of shelter.
Directed by Dave Haley, this sanctuary serves as a beacon of hope for those seeking asylum in the United States.
It offers not just accommodation but a haven steeped in the essence of safety, comfort and belonging.
"Part of our goal is ensuring they won't be burdened with debt upon leaving here," affirms Haley. "We focus on their unique qualities, contributions and potential, enriching our community in diverse ways."
Recognizing the crucial link between mobility and progress, Casa Guadalupana initiated a no-interest loan program. This initiative grants residents three years to secure reliable transportation without financial strain.
Haley further emphasizes the community's fiscal prudence: "Residents honor their commitments, enabling us to recycle funds and support the next individuals in need."
Recognizing the importance of mobility in establishing a new life, Casa GuadalupAna initiated a no-interest loan program, providing residents with three years to pay off a reliable car. Director Haley notes the community's responsibility in sustaining this initiative: "Folks are very, very good about paying it back so we can recycle that money to the next set of needs here."
Every dollar counts in this effort, and the shelter is grateful for the 2023 TEGNA Foundation grant.
The creation of this haven transcends physical constructs. It embodies the collective warmth, compassion and shared spirit of an entire village, encapsulating the essence of home.
