MOORHEAD, Minn. — A Moorhead man is facing a murder charge for the death of his mother, who was found dead inside their home on Friday.

A complaint filed in Clay County Monday charges 25-year-old James Kollie with one count of second-degree murder in connection with the death of his mother, Receia Kollie.

An autopsy conducted by the Ramsey County Medical Examiner determined she died from "multiple sharp force injuries."

According to court documents, Moorhead police officers were dispatched to the Kollies' home on Dec. 2 on reports of a person suffering from cardiac arrest. The complaint says the 911 caller reported someone had killed his mother-in-law, and he told dispatch he believed the killer was Kollie's son.

When officers arrived, the complaint says, they found Receia Kollie's body in the foyer of their residence, located on the 3800 block of 32nd Street South in Moorhead. Family members at the scene reported her vehicle was also missing.

Investigators with the police department and the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) later told prosecutors they observed "sharp force trauma" to the victim, including defensive wounds to her hand. The complaint says investigators also found blood evidence that was limited to the foyer area where her body was found and another area near her son's bedroom door.

During their initial investigation, prosecutors say authorities found the suspect had been arrested for domestic assault - fear against the victim on Nov. 27, after his mother and sister produced audio recordings in which he allegedly threatened his mother with physical violence and said, "I'm ready to take your life." Two days later he was released on conditions, including agreeing to a protection order that did not allow contact with his mother, according to court documents.

On Dec. 1, prosecutors allege Kollie placed a phone call to his mother around 4 p.m. Court documents say Kollie's phone was in the proximity of the home for about nine minutes before it began moving out of Moorhead.

Later that evening, Kollie was located in Wahpeton, North Dakota, driving his mother's car, and was subsequently arrested.

Kollie remains in the Richland County Jail in North Dakota, waiting to be transferred back to Minnesota.

During an interview with investigators, the complaint says, Kollie "showed significant anger" toward his mother for "getting him arrested and kicking him out of their residence."
