MINNEAPOLIS — Noise will be made and roads will be closed, but the City of Minneapolis says it's all part of the plan to improve the corridor for its residents from Interstate 94 to Uptown.
The first phase of the planned reconstruction will begin on Monday, April 1 from West Lake Street to 26th Street as part of a two-year project.
"The new, multimodal design improves space for people walking, riding transit, biking and driving," said a the city in a press release.
Hennepin Ave. will be closed from Lake Street to 28th Street beginning on April 1, but businesses in the area will not be forced to close due to the construction, according to the project's website.
"The layout also provides space for enhanced stations being built for the future METRO E Line, a new Bus Rapid Transit line that will largely replace Route 6 in December 2025," added the release from the city.
Metro Transit buses on Hennepin Avenue will be detour to Lyndale Avenue from Lake Street or 31st Street and 24th Street.
The project will focus construction on the area from 26th Street to Douglas Avenue next year, according to the statement.
