WINONA, Minn. - It's been almost three years since the body of a newborn baby was found floating in the Mississippi River, but Winona County authorities haven't given up hope of cracking the case.
A KAGE-AM report Thursday says the sheriff's office has kept the investigation open. Authorities acquired DNA samples from the body, and are hoping to locate the parents to find out what happened.
Authorities called the child "Baby Angel" because her body was wrapped up with items including angel figurines. Deputies want to know how she ended up in the river in 2011.
The case has remained unsolved, despite an extensive investigation conducted by local authorities and the Minnesota state crime lab.
Sheriff Dave Brand says authorities are still hoping that someone with information comes forward.
