ID=5501629CHIPPEWA FALLS, Wis. - The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources has received reports of moose sightings in the Chippewa Valley - a rare occurrence in that part of the state.

Jess Carstens is a wildlife biologist for the DNR. He says he received reports of two moose sightings around Sand Creek in Dunn County last Tuesday. One woman reported it was a female.

The Chippewa Herald reports there was a male moose sighting Wednesday between Bloomer and Colfax. Carstens says photos show its size is similar that of a moose captured on trail cameras days earlier in Chetek.

He says most moose sightings are much farther north. But it's breeding season, so the male may have been in a fight with another male and ended up in the Chippewa Valley.
