Driver has legs amputated following crash near Shoreview

The Ramsey County Sheriff's Office says deputies responded to County Road 1 and North Oaks, where they found a man outside his vehicle with severe leg injuries.

SHOREVIEW, Minn. — A driver had both legs amputated following a crash in the northeast metro late Saturday.

The Ramsey County Sheriff's Office says deputies were dispatched to the intersection of County Road 1 and Hodgson Road in North Oaks around 11:50 p.m. on reports of a two-vehicle crash. They arrived to find members of the Lake Johanna Fire Department and Allina paramedics helping the driver of one vehicle, a 49-year-old man from Burnsville, who was lying on the ground with severe leg injuries.

He was rushed to Regions Hospital, where both legs had to be amputated, according to Ramsey County sheriff's spokesman Steve Linders.

The driver of the second vehicle involved in the crash was a 17-year-old from Shorewood, who was uninjured.

Investigators say drug or alcohol impairment does not appear to be a factor in the crash.

State Patrol is doing a reconstruction of the crash on Sunday morning and the Ramsey County Sheriff is investigating.
