Dump truck driver dies in fire following crash despite efforts of good Samaritans

The Ramsey County Sheriff's Office says the dump truck caught fire after the crash, and good Samaritans were unable to get the driver out.

The driver of a dump truck died after a crash and subsequent fire near Highway 10 and I-35W Tuesday.

MOUNDS VIEW, Minn — A dump truck driver died Tuesday after losing control of his rig and hitting trees before catching on fire. 

According to the Ramsey County Sheriff's Office, it happened on I-35W at Highway 10 at about 12:45 p.m. 

An investigation is still underway, but authorities say it appears the driver lost control of the truck and went off the roadway. No other vehicles were involved. 

Sheriff's officials told KARE 11 the truck caught fire after running into a grove of trees. First responders and passersby tried to get the driver out of the cab but weren't able to. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. 

No other vehicles were involved in the incident, and no additional injuries reported.
