ELK MOUND, Wis. — A crash between two vehicles on Monday night left a 70-year-old woman dead, according to the Dunn County Sheriff's Office.

Crews were called to the intersection of South 29th and 970th Street in Elk Mound, which is located about 20 minutes north and west of Eau Claire, Wisconsin, around 8:30 p.m. Monday.

When they arrived, they found an unresponsive woman in the driver's seat of a pickup truck in the ditch, according to a press release.

Officials think the pickup was driving west on South 29th and attempted to turn south onto 970th Street. But the driver failed to yield to a semi truck hauling pigs that was headed east on the same road. After the impact, officials said both vehicles went off the road down a steep embankment, striking several trees.

No pigs escaped from the semi after the crash.

The 70-year-old woman driving the truck was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash by the Dunn County Medical Examiner's Office. Her name has not been released, pending notification of her family.

The driver of the semi was not injured.

Roads in the area were closed for several hours as officials removed the vehicles and livestock.
