Eagan's 'Busted by the Bus' sting nabs bad drivers

Eagan police busted several distracted drivers Wednesday, one person was caught watching CNN behind the wheel.

EAGAN, Minn. — "Operation: Busted by the Bus" rolled through the streets of Eagan Wednesday afternoon in an attempt to crack down on bad drivers.

Fifteen squad cars from agencies across Dakota County were used as part of the operation. Officers and deputies made over 150 traffic stops during the five-hour operation. Eagan police say citations were issued for distracted driving, seat belt use, and a number of other violations.

Police say one a driver was "watching CNN behind the wheel and one woman was spotted taking a selfie with her dog while driving." Another was eating with chopsticks, while not wearing a seat belt.

Eagan police officers say they expect to do more of these types of operations.

Police also added that many drivers spotted by police in the school bus behaved well and "utilized hands free devices."

Last April, Eagan police launched Operation: Busted by the Bus in which officers on a school bus spotted distracted drivers.

"Children were not present during the operation and the bus did not make any fake bus stops to generate stop arm violations. Officers made 131 traffic stops and issued 60 citations," according to a news release.
