Explosive device ID'd as 'cricket' bomb in St. Cloud

St. Cloud police on Monday identified an explosive device found Saturday between Division Street and First Street North near 29th Avenue North was a "cricket" bomb made from an empty CO2 cartridge.

ST. CLOUD, Minn. - St. Cloud police on Monday identified an explosive device found Saturday between Division Street and First Street North near 29th Avenue North was a "cricket" bomb made from an empty CO2 cartridge.

The device contained no shrapnel and had a non-timer type fuse, according to police.

The object was reported late Saturday morning, and a Crow Wing County bomb squad destroyed it late Saturday afternoon. Police cordoned off an area and monitored it for much of the day.

Police continue to look for information about the incident and released a photo of a similar device.
