PINE CITY, Minn — Law enforcement from across the state paid their respects to fallen Department of Natural Resources Conservation Officer, Eugene Wynn, Friday.
Wynn, 43, died Saturday after being thrown from a boat while responding to a call on Cross Lake in Pine City.
"When this happens, it just tears at everybody's heartstrings," said Commander Dave Holmquist, of the Minnesota Law Enforcement Memorial Association Honor Guard, "He lost his life in the line of duty. We want to make sure we remember him and honor him today for giving the ultimate sacrifice."
The DNR says at least 70 agencies from across the state came to the Pine City Civic Center Friday for Wynn's visitation and funeral.
At one point, a line of law enforcement stretched from the doors of the Civic Center to the Armory across the street.
The DNR says at least 25 agencies from out of state attended the funeral.
"Hopefully, the family sees that, and I know they do, that there are supportive people out here for them to get them through this difficult time," said Holmquist.
"Sad to say we've seen too many of these," said Mark Lea, senior ride captain of the Minnesota Patriot Guard.
Officer Wynn served as a conservation officer since 2001.
He is survived by his wife and two young children.
Wynn is the 22nd Minnesota conservation officer to die in the line of duty. The last death occurred in 1999.
