ST PAUL, Minnesota — It looks like 2024 is already off to a strong start for the Minnesota State High School League's Boys State Hockey Tournament.
The quarterfinal Class AA games took place at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, breaking an attendance record measuring 19,765 people in the afternoon, beating an old record of around 19,200. The evening games measured even larger at 20,208 people in attendance.
A buzzer-beater by Grand Rapids sent home White Bear Lake, meanwhile, it was a clean sweep for Edina against Elk River.
A hard-fought battle between Cretin-Derham Hall and Centennial went into double overtime. Cretin advanced to the semi-finals against Chanhassen and Edina will face off against Grand Rapids.
In the Class A semifinals, Warroad will take on St. Cloud Cathedral. Hermantown will go up against Mahtomedi.
The championship games are set to be played Saturday. Expect traffic delays in St. Paul.
