MINNEAPOLIS — A Saturday night crash in Minneapolis' Folwell neighborhood sent three people to the hospital where one woman later died, according to police.

In a press release, police said around 10:40 p.m. Saturday, officers responded to a two-vehicle crash with injuries at the intersection of North Lowry Avenue and North James Avenue in Minneapolis.

Police said preliminary information shows the driver of a Dodge Journey crossed the center line of Lowry Avenue and crashed into an oncoming Dodge Durango head-on.

After the crash the driver of the Journey was assaulted by a passenger from the Durango, police said.

Crews took two people from the Durango to North Memorial Health. Police said the 31-year-old woman driving the vehicle later died at the hospital, despite life-saving efforts.

A 14-year-old girl riding as a passenger was also injured. Officials have not provided any information about the teen's condition as of Sunday.

The Hennepin County Medical Examiner will release the 31-year-old woman's name and cause of death in the coming days.

An unidentified woman riding in the Durango did not speak with police, officials said.

The 34-year-old Journey driver was also taken to the hospital for his non-life-threatening injuries. Police said he was later booked for suspected DWI and criminal vehicular homicide.

This incident is still under investigation.
