BROOKLYN PARK, Minn. — A fiery crash on Highway 169 in Brooklyn Park early Monday afternoon claimed multiple lives and shut down all northbound lanes, according to public safety officials.
Brooklyn Park police say two vehicles headed northbound on the busy highway collided at or near the intersection with 109th Ave. around 11:30 a.m., engulfing both in flames. A news release said occupants in one of the burning vehicles did not survive, although it did not specify how many victims there were.
As of 1:30 p.m. northbound lanes remained closed, and both MnDOT and Brooklyn Park police warned that stretch of 169 and the intersection at 109th Avenue would remain shut down for several hours while the crash is investigated and cleaned up.
The names of the victims will be released by the Minnesota State Patrol either later Monday or Tuesday.
