ST PAUL, Minn — The last Republican-appointed justice on the Minnesota Supreme Court will retire.
Minnesota Supreme Court Associate Justice G. Barry Anderson plans to retire on May 10, according to a letter he sent to Minnesota Governor Tim Walz.
Anderson, who was appointed by Republican Governor Tim Pawlenty in 2004, has served on the court for nearly 20 years.
"I have the greatest admiration for my colleagues on the Minnesota Supreme Court; the deliberative work of the court in making difficult decisions is both rewarding and challenging. We do not always agree but I will leave the court as I found it, a judicial body composed of superb public servants dedicated to a collaborative process, seeking, within human limitations, to discharge our constitutional duties as best as circumstances allow," said Anderson in his letter of resignation.
Before joining the Minnesota Supreme Court in 2004, Anderson was a member of the Minnesota Court of Appeals for eight years beginning in 1998, according to the Minnesota Judicial Branch.
Anderson graduated from Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minnesota back in 1976 and graduated from the University of Minnesota Law School in 1979.
