SHAKOPEE, Minn. — Excessive flooding is putting a damper on Minnesota's Fourth of July celebrations.

Both Valleyfair and the city of Stillwater announced Thursday that they have canceled their Independence Day fireworks displays.

In a release Thursday, Valleyfair announced the cancellation and an update to its daily operating hours. The park will still be open July 4 from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. with Soak City hours cut back to 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The theme park has been swamped with flooding from the Minnesota River and closed three rides and the main parking lot until the waters recede. There is free off-site parking and shuttle service if you are planning to visit Valleyfair soon.

On Wednesday, Stillwater postponed its Fourth of July fireworks display and festivities due to flooding in Lowell Park. There isn't a rescheduled date posted as of Friday, but check the city website for updates
