Four people hospitalized after carbon monoxide exposure at Rochester hotel

Emergency crews were called to a La Quinta just before noon on Saturday when several people reported feeling lethargic.

ROCHESTER, Minn. — Four people were sent to the hospital Saturday after they were exposed to carbon monoxide while swimming in a hotel pool.

Just before noon on Saturday, emergency responders were called to a La Quinta Inn and Suites in Rochester on a report of people feeling lethargic after swimming.

A nurse who was at the scene said she helped a girl who passed out in the hotel's pool area.

"I couldn't feel a pulse at all, so I started CPR on her and she came back after less than a minute. But she still wouldn't wake up, she'd open her eyes and pass right out again," Cindy Clement said.

Rochester Fire officials said they found highly elevated carbon monoxide levels in the area, and with the help of Minnesota Energy Resources, large positive-pressure ventilation fans were used to air out the building.
